Finished tagtool – interior test

Loads of issues – primarily with the push-button – finally solved, and now I can get on with the real testing, that I initially hoped would’ve started over a month ago. Good friend Gustav Pontoppidan helped out with the testing tonight, and damn it. It’s FUN!

Tagtool finally up and running

Today I finally got the Tagtool working – I am experiencing some trouble, especially with my button, and is currently stuck with it working reverse if what it should. Rats. But at least I can get going now.

Tagtool box construction finished

16

Under excellent guidance from designer Søren Ulrich, I finally managed to finish the box yesterday. The process was a bit more complicated than first expected, it was very interesting to get some insight into more advanced prototyping than the tape’n'cardboard thing i did initially.

Prototype #1

Today I finally got around to building a prototype. Babysteps.. This gave me important knowledge on how the sliders should be placed, how big my box will need to be, and made it possible to make some very important usability tests.

Next step will be to build the wooden box, but since I have the layout for it, this should be pretty straightforward – I’ll just have to pull those network-strings once again, and get my woodworking mastermind of a friend to work :)

Bits ‘n pieces

My Arduino finally arrived. Being such a clumsy I ordered an extra straight away, as I predict this will end in flame, smoke and eventually tears as well.

It’s like being in primary school again – working with basic physics. I even got me a soldering set now, so I can get the fun started.
Until now, I only made (very) small tutorial projects – blinking LEDs and simple audio stuff. I’ll get some more parts today, and will start with the potentiometers, which is a core subject in the Tagtool creation.
Once i get that straight, I just have to start building straight away – although I’m not entirely sure I understand every part of it. But I could spend ages trying to figure this out – gotta get my hands dirty.

Storyboard

First – I intend to make a small video-teaser for this project. It will be short (1:30), and aimed at Vimeo’s audience. As well as a promotion-thing for me. And lastly – I never made a video, and I want to give it a shot. It’ll be first take stuff – ’cause I could really spend an entire term doing just this video.

Anyways, this is the storyboard. I storyboarded for small flash games before, and haven’t got the slightest idea if this will work, but a pretty good hunch :)

Proper introductions

Welcome to my project site.

I’m studying interaction design at the Danish Design School, and until somewhere in February, I will be working on the project with the working title: “Playful interventions based on integration between art & technology” – yes, catchy title, I know. (Trying to keep an important scientific angle on the project)

Why:
I want to create a platform that motivates non-artists and non-designers to take part in the decoration of Copenhagen. One block from where I live, a little park has been designed and is currently being set up by construction guys. Behind the park is approx. 80 m2 of end wall with very uninteresting artwork, and if the end wall will be redecorated, my guess is it will be as inane as its predecessor.
What will happen is that the inane and expensive artwork will be ruined by the local youngsters with spray cans, because it means nothing to them.
I want to give guys like these an opportunity to visualize their thoughts. – And no, this is not about grafitti. This is just an example :)

How:
I’m going to set up an intervention, where the main object of interest will be a Tagtool, one example for the setting could be this very park.

Below is an excellent, and very large scale tagtool-based event.
